Show Notes:
In this episode of Goddess in Training, I’m joined by my friend and former colleague Deborah Collins, a powerhouse in the nonprofit and consulting space with a side life as a ski instructor. Together we explore the role of intuition in job-seeking, hiring, and organizational leadership — and how tuning into your inner wisdom can transform the way you navigate work and career transitions.
We talk about:
How to tell the difference between intuition and fear
What makes a good question in a job interview (and why asking them matters)
Why hiring managers should trust their gut just as much as their checklist
The power of showing up authentically at work
How skiing and consulting actually ask for the same things: safety and trust
Learning to pause when something doesn’t feel quite right
Whether you’re looking for a new role, hiring a team, or simply wondering how to lead with more clarity and ease — this one is for you.

Intuition is a Career Skill
When we talk about intuition, we don’t always talk about it in the context of work. But the truth is — most of us are already using it. We just call it other things: good judgment. Strong instincts. Perceptiveness.
Deborah Collins has spent over 20 years guiding organizations through transformation — from Tate Modern to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. She’s also someone who deeply gets how to read a room, ask the right question, or trust that subtle “yes” or “no” that lives below the surface.
This conversation is wide-ranging and full of gems, from her early entrepreneurial roots to her reflections on leadership, organizational culture, and how to trust yourself when everything is in flux.
We also talk about what it means to uncouple from urgency, pause when something feels off, and notice the quiet voice that often knows before we do.
A Personal Note
Deborah and I met during a time of big transition in my own career (you can read more about it here). She brought calm, steadiness, and a quiet confidence to a chaotic moment — and reminded me that it’s possible to move through change with grace, honesty, and a lot of heart.
This conversation felt like an extension of that grounding. I hope it brings the same sense of clarity to you, wherever you are on your journey.
If it resonates, send it to a friend who’s job-seeking, career-shifting, or just in need of a reminder that their gut actually knows.
With love,
Sarah
